Robert John Skupham opened the shop in 1982 after serving his apprenticeship with jewellers in and around the Manchester area. Bob’s family moved to Glossop when he was young and his passion was to open his own store in his hometown. The original site was at The Exchange which was further down the High Street.
Howard Chadwick, who is now the owner, was employed by Bob after leaving school in 1987.Howard stayed in the jewellery trade after leaving Bob in 1992 working as Assistant Manager and Manager for a few Jewellers and Pawnbrokers.
Whilst working for Preston’s of Rochdale, Howard met David Shipley (Our working Jeweller) and kept in touch over the years. Whilst Howard was at Fraser Hart Jewellers in St. Anne’s Square in Manchester, Bob approached him with the offer of taking over his business in Glossop.
Moving Forward
A Family Business
So, in 2005, the reins were passed over and a new era was born with Howard, being Glossop born and bred, returning to his initial workplace. In recent times Howard approached David to set up a jewellery workshop on the premises. The business is a family concern as now Tracy, Howard’s wife, came to work here in 2020 and never went back to her career in accounts due to the business expanding.
From time to time we bring Bob out of retirement to cover holidays and busy periods such as Xmas.

We are known locally for having in-house ability to provide a full jewellery cleaning service, redesign old jewellery, remount and reclaw newer pieces, restore precious metals and the replacement of lost stones.

A Collaborative Process
1. Chat With an Expert
Designing a unique piece with Skupham's is a collaborative process. Together, you'll explore your design ideas, gemstones and precious metal options.
2. Design Approval
We then provides high quality sketches and provisional images of the piece that you want making, ready for you to approve or make any final amendments.
3. Create Your Ring
Once approved, our expert Jeweller gets to work in the Skuphams Workshop and will deliver your piece of Jewellery as designed, on time and to budget.
